If you just picked up your dentures you may be thinking, how do I stop them from moving around? Even the best fit product can still shift from time to time. This is where denture adhesives come into play. There are a lot of options out there though, so what all do you need to know?
First of all, figure out your price range. In general, adhesives aren’t really too expensive and can last a while, but every dollar counts, right? Make sure you look at the features of each option and make sure you get one that does have all of the ones that you need. You may save on price with some of them, but they won’t give you the experience that you are looking for.
Next you need to know what kind of adhesive you want. It comes in several different forms. There are powders, pastes, and powders. Ultimately the choice is up to you, but based on experience the pastes tend to be the most purchased adhesive type. It tends to be much easier to put on and in general a lot cleaner to apply. Especially compared to the powder type.
Next, you need to decide if you want one with zinc or not. An adhesive like Fixodent has zinc in it. It may not bother some people, but others have small allergies to it so it can end up bothering them over time. There is also research being done going into some of the bad effects zinc has on the body. Be aware with this one. We usually recommend going for something that is zinc-free if you can.
Lastly, look at the reviews for the products. Doing research on your own will only get you so far. Seeing what other people actually say about it is what will give you the full picture about the product. You can then see pros and cons about products that you would have never discovered otherwise. With these tips, you should be able to make a more informed choice. Good luck and good shopping!
